Biographical note:

Dr. Francisco José Álvarez-Gil is a lecturer of English language and linguistics in the Departmento de Filología Moderna, Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. He has delivered talks on some linguistic aspects of Modern English scientific writing in international conferences of the field such as the International Conference on Evidentiality and Modality (Madrid), the XVIII Congresso Internazionale dell’Associazione Italiana de Linguistica Applicata (Roma), the 20th International Conference on English Historical linguistics (Edinburgh) and le Colloque International de Linguistique de Corpus (Paris). He has been a visiting scholar in some reputed Universities with leading departments in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and he is currently a member of the research team of the project Identificación y análisis de las estrategias metadiscursivas en artículos científicos en español e inglés (supported by the Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad). His research interests primarily concern the analysis of specialised English from a synchronic and diachronic perspective, corpus linguistics, and language pedagogy at tertiary level.
